琴林公園

琴林公園の名称は、松林を吹き抜ける風音があたかも琴を奏でるような音に聞こえることから、「琴林公園」と名付けられたとの言い伝えがありますが、一般には「津田の松原」と呼ばれています。
当公園は、約600年前に石清水八幡宮の別当、常楽寺の僧が防風林として松を植えたのが始まりといわれており、現在樹齢600年ともいわれるクロマツや、根元の砂が削られたため、あたかも根が浮き上がったかのように見える根上がりの松をはじめとする約3,000本もの松と、白砂が広がる自然海岸がある全国でも有数の白砂青松の公園で、海水浴等レクリエーションの場所として一年中親しまれています。

開設面積　約9.6ha
大正4年8月24日に県立公園に指定。昭和31年5月1日に瀬戸内海国立公園に指定。
昭和62年1月10日に日本の白砂青松100選に指定。
平成7年7月10日に日本の渚100選に指定。 
平成17年3月14日に香川のみどり百選に指定。

Kinrin Park

The word "Kinrin" is written with two Chinese characters. The first character, "Kin", can also be read "Koto", which is a traditional Japanese harp. The second character, "Rin", means forest. 
Kinrin Park is said to have been named as such because the wind blowing through the pine groves sounds like a Koto being played. It is more commonly known as "Tsuda no Matsubara", which translates to "Pine Groves of Tsuda".
The park is said to have its origin in the planting of pine trees as a windbreak about 600 years ago by a monk of Jorakuji Temple, a branch of Ishimizu Hachimangu Shrine. Now, the area is home to some 3,000 black pine trees, including some said to be 600 years old, and those with raised roots that appear to float because the sand at their base has been eroded by wind and water. There is also a natural beach with a wide expanse of white sand. Kinrin Park, one of only a number of parks in Japan with a combination of pine trees and a beach, is popular all year round as a place for swimming and other recreational activities.
